theatre in chicago

I got T-minus eleven minutes until I'm out of my cubicle nightmare for the day and wanted to give props to two amazing pieces of theatre going on in Chicago right now.

The first is Red Light Winter presented by Thunder & Lightning Ensemble over at the Trapdoor Theatre directed by Chris Arnold (who is the man responsible for my current affiliation with LiveWire and it is daily that I curse and praise him). A rough and raw play staged beautifully and acted brilliantly. stand out performances by the guy who plays Matt and the working girl. the third is annoying as all hell, which is good for the script, but I question why these other two tolerate him. the play flew by cause I had a hell of a lot of fun. the dialogue is incredible. props to Rapp and these fellow artists.

the second show is August: Osage County, which is playing at Steppenwolf and written by Tracey Letts. I saw Letts in The Dresser sometime ago and hated him. As a writer he is a master. This play will go down in history and everyone in Chicago needs to see it so they can say they were there. The cast was phenomenal, the design incredible and the script lent well to full investment in this heartbreakingly funny family drama. i'd spoil it all by going into more detail and show how inept I am at writing up against this piece of purity, so I will stop. GO SEE THIS PLAY!!! PAY! IT WILL BE WORTH IT!!

T-minus four minutes now, I better start packing up so I can take a breath of fresh air and eat some good Greek food with my Jewish family.

Peace!
