Recruiting the Truth
we need to start a campaign for truth, the whole truth and nothing but it...
i'm sitting here and my co-worker's ex-husband walks in and they talk and she is signing some papers and they talk a bit more (in spanish) so I don't understand anything and he leaves and of course there's a lot of tension though a different kind this time.
she says, "here's the deal, this idiot is signing up for the Army and i've got to sign papers to retain full custody over our two children." he's got three including one with his current girlfriend. no one is happy and even the girls (their children) have been outspoken about not wanting her to sign the papers. she's got to though cause who knows what'll happen to him. he says everything will be find. he's doing it because he's always wanted to and he wasn't able to pass the test before. somehow he's fit now?
anyway, we all know there is no real support the children are going to get from the Army both financially and emotionally as their father does this thing he's got to do. the kicker is that he thinks he's smart and he's going in to get additional training as an engineer and he's been promised that he's not enlisting to go into combat. he's been promised.
it reminded me of this newsletter I read put out by the Iraq Veterans Against the War. truth in recruiting. you can READ IT HERE, but basically it says that recruiting officers are bullshitting a whole bunch of chumps to enlist. it's a sad case of affairs...
i printed the newsletter out for her and she immediately calls him to ream him out but he's adamant about going. for the ninas she says. i know what the means. it's girls. daughters. children.
we can't say think of them because that's too cliche and if we ask anyone in this country to feel well that's gonna lead to a whole lot of name calling so I guess the only thing left to do is act.
can we do something like that?
