recruitment week 1

i still believe that theatre and art in general which I must say to contribute to the belief that there is a universal for lack of a better word system is in play for all art forms and not just theatre but I say theatre because I am a part of that and am working on a play as we speak in no better terms i still believe that theatre and art in general contribute to a society free to move and grow and the growth of an artist and the movement we can create only exists if we let exist no matter how big or small the struggle or story you play.

glenn gave three actors about ten minutes to play around with a moment in the script which called for a fight. after ten minutes they presented the fight they created and from it glenn shaped for about twenty minutes and there was a fight scene played out before our eyes. cory and I laughing along entertained. maya in the corner fixing a score. more more more, I say.

come check it out on December 13, 14 & 15 as part of the MCDT 800lb Gorilla in the Room peformance at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.

collections

i recently had to be my own collections department for a web job I did. when phone calls and e-mails weren't being returned, I decided I needed to make an unexpected office visit. when making this decision, I thought I should bring someone along for protection, but then thought better and went solo. my client wasn't there. i left a message on his desk and in a matter of days, he responded and we set up a time for me to come back. i returned and got my money. it was a terrible experience and I will no longer do work for this client or take referrals from the guy who gave me this lead. guilt by association is a bit drastic, but there's more to that one I'm not going into on this blog.

so, in the past two weeks since I've been laid off there have been a couple instances where collectors have come to our office looking for money owed to them. both collectors brought muscle. neither became violent though both were extremely irate. it seems like a good time to be losing my current position (we're also being sued on a couple accounts).

it's a matter of economics, right? or is it humanity. i mean, people's words these days are losing meaning. i won't go into specifics about the office situations, but there is little humanity involved. greed abounds.

land

i have in my lifetime since I first joined the workforce which can be charted back to high school when I worked at a Dry Cleaners now been laid off (or fired, terminated, canned, given my pink slip, walking papers, etc. etc. etc.) from two positions. the first was quite alarming and surrounded a trip from Erwin, TN to Peoria, IL where I stopped at a pay phone to call my employers (a married hippie couple i'd been traveling with, playing music under the name, Patchouli) and instead of just telling me where our hotel was located told me location and that "we can no longer financially support you." ouch! i was in Indianapolis, IN and had another three and a half hour drive to Peoria, or a much longer drive back to Erwin, where my stuff was. I decided to get a face to face, which wasn't pleasant and I was pretty much a wreck for a couple weeks. It wasn't really being fired at the time, it was the way I was fired. yes, that's the business, but from a happy hippie couple that I had basically left everything else to live and travel with, it sucked. on top of this, they had just purchased 24 acres of land in the Appalachian Mountains. It appeared they cared more for undeveloped land than a future as a traveling trio.

so, I've come to my second position where I am now laid off. the real estate market is doing terrible and I work at a company with non-performing agents and no real care for any sort of marketing system. my position is no longer needed and my salary is too high to keep me on. the company is drowning it seems. the kicker is that very recently, the owners have been working on a deal where they bought a large piece of land they hope to develop on. the deal has been costing them quite a pretty penny daily and if it comes through, they will reap a large reward. however, in more recent news, the deal is on the edge of falling through and it is my assumption that if it does, the company will be in even deeper water. bottom line, it's a really good time to get out. I thank the owners for showing me the door on this one, but I can't help feel it is this whole land thing that I keep getting screwed by.

i understand the importance of ownership and land ownership has been so important to the civilization we're accustom. maybe it's time I started grabbing my piece. it is a buyer's market. only, I need a job first. if anyone knows of anything, drop me a line. just make sure the company doesn't have any land deals they're working on.
